Jyothi Bhavan - was constituted in the year 1994 to nurture the fisher folks of Kannumma village of Ambalapuzha Taluka of Alleppey District. The people here are migrants from Quilon and Tuticorin since a couple of centuries. Jyothi Bhavan is set against the backdrop of back waters of Kerala catering to the various socio-economic needs of the community. As the mechanized fishing became a threat to the poor villagers, whose sole livelihood depends of fishing, and the absence of fishing nets and boats pose a great threat to this migrant community.  In the year 2008 the community shifted to Mangalam village.
