ST. ANNA CONVENT

Fr Eckramans Michael from the Diocese of Kottar, having witnessed the work of our sisters at Dharavi during his regency, requested SHM in 2008 to work in this diocese to empower the women and children, and to help in the pastoral ministry of St Antony Church, Nagacode. The first community was formed on 9 June 2009. The main thrust of the centre is cancer related care in memory of Mother Anna Huberta who had succumbed to cancer.

Seeing the needs of the people, the sisters plunged into medical relief camps and cancer awareness programs. TA palliative care centre, Mother Anna Care Centre, was inaugurated on 17 January 2019 and on 17 August 2021 it was registered under the provisions of Tamil Nadu Government Clinical Establishments Regulation Act 1997 to provide services under the allopathic system of medicine with 25 beds.

At the centre the sisters conduct various programs: cancer screening camps, cancer-related seminars and training for medical personnel, volunteer training in palliative care, rehabilitation of patients, etc. They are also involved in women’s empowerment, livelihood programs and education of children.
