Saude is in Cochin, but it belongs to the diocese of Alleppey. There are two different communities—one is Anglo-Indian, and the other is the original inhabitants of Saude. The latter are mainly fisherfolk and their economic condition is very poor. So Bishop of Alleppey, Peter Chennaparabil requested SHM to come and work for the uplift of the people there. Bishop Chennaparabil bought the land and built a convent which he named Our Lady of Health.

Following the tsunami that hit the area on 26 December 2004 the sisters assisted affected families to rebuild their lives through medical aid, providing nets and boats, building over 200 houses, helping with children’s education and with other immediate needs.

The activities conducted are now social development through educational support to poor children, medical aid, income generation schemes, skills training for women, livelihood programs.
