SOCIETY OF THE HELPERS OF MARY
DIVYA JYOTI
Divya Jyoti was established on 8 June 1992 on the invitation of the local MLA, Mr Uttamraoji Rathod to take care of hostelites. Initially the sisters travelled daily to Mandvi from Kinwat, but later they took up residence in a rented room in the village. Subsequently land was purchased and this centre was built.

The sisters initiated skills training for dropout girls and women, and balwadis in the villages in 1995. Later tailoring centres were initiated in the villages to reach out to women. Slowly women’s self-help groups were formed and projects were channelized for the tribal population through the integrated Tribal Development Project and other government projects. There are now 164 self-help groups in 24 villages. The centre continues to address the socio-economic issues of the people, and carry out a daily mid-day meal program for the elderly, sick and other vulnerable sections in the villages.
