SOCIETY OF THE HELPERS OF MARY
MARIA SADAN
On 4 April 1960 Fr Victoria, parish priest of Holy Cross Church, Nirmal, invited SHM to work in the area. Initially the sisters visited twice a week. After seven months the sisters found an unused house and shifted there. In 1971 the sisters set up a clinic-cum-maternity home as medical services for the poor were unavailable. The people flocked to the clinic and in December 1975 it was converted into a well-equipped hospital. A nutrition program for the local women was also initiated. However, as other medical centres opened in the area, the hospital was gradually closed.

Seeing the poor condition of the children, SHM started a kindergarten in 1981 and a good number of children were admitted. A home was also opened in 1981 where poor young girls could be sheltered, cared for and educated.

In June 2018, the children of the home were shifted to Asha Sadan-Waliv and Maria Sadan accommodated the young girls who aspired to complete their junior college and graduation.
