SOCIETY OF THE HELPERS OF MARY
SEVA SADAN
The centre is situated in Majiwada in the district of Thane. It was inaugurated on 9 January 1983. A glass factory was closed down and the residential house was donated to SHM. It was given in memory of Dr Asha Dubey to provide medical service to tribals dwelling in the surrounding slum of Dhokali. A good number of patients would flock to the dispensary. With the mushrooming of clinics and hospitals the medical services have been reduced.
With multiple complications in the family life of the people, the sisters began reaching out and caring for their social, economic and psychological needs. The sisters also manage a playschool and nursery for tribal children. In 1991 the outreach was extended to Manpada.

In 1992 the sisters founded a credit union for the people, and this has slowly progressed to a credit society with micro-financing which has had many beneficiaries.
